Louise’s Story: “Don’t sit on the fence. Just come and do it.”

Louise has lived in England for 31 years, originally born and bred in Malta before moving here with her British husband. When he suggested they finally “bite the bullet” and join Couch to 5K with Runspire Together, she agreed.
It turned out to be one of the best decisions she’s made.

Starting From Scratch

Before joining Runspire, Louise hadn’t run before. She used to enjoy swimming, but over time that routine stopped, and like many people, she found it hard to start something new again.

Being outdoors made a difference.

“Especially being outside. Which is better?”

At the beginning, Louise admits she felt tired. Very tired.

But she kept showing up.

“When I set my mind on something, I say I’m going to do it, I’ll do it. I give it 120%.”

Physical Changes: “My breathing is fantastic now”

Since starting the programme, Louise has noticed real physical improvements.

“My breathing is fantastic now.”

What once felt difficult now feels achievable. What once felt tiring now feels empowering.

And she’s proud — incredibly proud — that she’s completed a 5K.

“That I’ve done the 5K. That I’ve never done before.”

Mental Wellbeing: “It made me up and go… and smile more.”

For Louise, the benefits haven’t just been physical.

“It’s made me feel fantastic.”

“It made me up and go. And smile more.”

When she first started, she was quieter and more reserved. Now?

“Now, you can’t stop me.”

That shift, from hesitant to confident is what community and consistency can do.

Community and Friendships for Life

Louise speaks passionately about the people she’s met.

“I’ve met so many nice people that helped me along the way.”

“I’ve definitely felt really part of the community.”

The friendships haven’t stayed within the sessions either. Louise and others now meet during the week for short runs or “shuffles.”

“Not long ones. Short ones. It helps. Come rain or shine.”

And perhaps most powerfully:

“The friends I’ve made are for life.”

What Would Louise Say to Someone Thinking About Joining?

Her advice is simple, and heartfelt:

“Please do it. Please do it. Don’t sit on the fence. Just come and do it.”

“You don’t need to run. Just walk… or in my case shuffle.”

And the support?

“Immense.”

Why Runspire?

“For your health. Health and mind.”

Louise started Couch to 5K unsure of what to expect. She finished stronger, healthier, more confident, and ready to continue.
“So much so I want to continue and do more.”
