  • Who Can Take Part?
We welcome everyone to join our group! Whether you're young or old, fit or unfit, a seasoned runner or just starting out, there's a place for you here to enjoy the benefits of running together. However, for safety reasons, we do have a few rules: If you're under 12, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times and run alongside them. This is because our insurance doesn't cover unaccompanied minors. We look forward to seeing you!

  • 10. Running and Walking Essentials
Here’s a helpful guide to gear up for your runs or walks: 1. Dressing for the Weather Always check the forecast before heading out. If it’s cold, consider wearing a hat and gloves. If it’s raining, a lightweight rain jacket will keep you comfortable. 2. Running/Walking in the Dark When exercising at night, wear bright or reflective clothing to stay visible. Reflective jackets or LED bands are great options. You can find affordable LED bands on Amazon for around £10-£15. 3. Footwear Invest in proper trainers. Avoid old or casual shoes that aren’t designed for running or walking. Consider getting a gait analysis to find shoes that support your running style. Recommendations: Budget option: Decathlon offers running trainers starting at around £35. Specialist option: Up & Running in Nottingham provides excellent running shoes starting at £125. It’s a bit pricier, but well worth the investment. A good pair of running socks is essential—choose ones that won’t rub or cause blisters. 4. Leg wear Whether you prefer shorts, leggings, running tights, or tracksuit bottoms is up to you. Keep in mind: Avoid baggy clothing in the rain as it can become heavy and uncomfortable. Personally, I prefer running in shorts, but if it’s cold, running tights are a great option. 5. Upper Body Clothing Warm weather: A simple T-shirt or technical shirt works best. Cooler weather: Long sleeve T-shirts are useful. The key is to layer—wear thin tops you can remove as you warm up. Hoodies are great for pre- and post-run warmth. Jackets: Lightweight running jackets are a matter of personal preference. 6. Sports Bra For women, a well-fitting sports bra is crucial. Decathlon has affordable options. Up & Running also carries a good selection. You can also check out Runderwear at www.runderwear.co.uk. Feel free to ask others in the group for their recommendations too! 7. Headgear Hats: Useful in both sunny and cold conditions but not necessary unless you prefer them. Sunglasses: If you like running in sunny weather, make sure your sunglasses fit securely so they don’t slip while running. 8. Gloves In cold weather, gloves are a must-have. They don’t need to be expensive—any warm pair will do. Keeping your fingers warm can make a huge difference! 9. Post-Run Essentials Bring a bag with a change of clothes, including dry tops, bottoms, and socks. Changing into fresh clothes after a good run or walk feels amazing, especially dry socks!
